Basic, Balanced and Heavy Compression
Every level downscales the longest edge and re-encodes the image at a different quality. Pick the trade-off that fits your use case.
Basic Compression
Longest edge up to about 2560px, high WebP quality.
The safe choice. Keeps detail close to the original, so savings are modest.
Balanced Compression
Longest edge up to about 1920px, moderate WebP quality.
The default. Usually the largest saving you can take without the image looking degraded on screen.
Heavy Compression
Longest edge up to about 1280px, lower JPEG quality.
The smallest practical file, with visible softness. Best for thumbnails and tight upload limits.

Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. Lottinier Image has no backend for image processing. Your file is read by your browser, compressed by code running on your device, and the result is written straight back to your downloads folder.
Is Lottinier Image free?+
Yes. There is no account, no subscription and no watermark.
What is the difference between Basic, Balanced and Heavy Compression?+
They differ in how far the longest edge is capped and how hard the image is re-encoded. Basic keeps quality close to the original. Balanced is the best default. Heavy is deliberately aggressive for the smallest file.
Why did my image not become much smaller?+
Already-optimised photos, small GIFs or images that are already below the target resolution have little left to remove. Lottinier Image reports the real result instead of inventing a saving.
Can compression reduce image quality?+
Yes. Images are downscaled and re-encoded with lossy formats. Basic stays close to the original, Balanced is a visible compromise only under close inspection, and Heavy is deliberately aggressive.
Which formats are supported?+
JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF are accepted. Output is typically WebP for Basic and Balanced, and JPEG for Heavy, depending on what the browser can encode.
Does Lottinier Image work on mobile?+
Yes, on current mobile versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. Very large photos may take longer on phones with limited memory.
Are my files stored anywhere?+
No. Nothing is written to a server, a database or cloud storage. When you close or reload the tab, every trace of the image is gone.
Why can a compressed file sometimes become larger?+
Re-encoding an already efficient image can cost more bytes than it saves. When that happens Lottinier Image shows the real increase and offers your untouched original for download instead of the larger result.
What happens to animated GIFs?+
Animated GIFs are accepted as input, but compression focuses on a still frame path in the browser. For best results with animation, prefer a dedicated GIF tool or convert to a video first.
